Welcome to Maker Heights!

This is the home of the Rame Conservation Trust and a host of businesses, artists and artisans. We'll introduce you to the Trust and some of our friends.

The Maker Heights site is located close to the end of the Rame Peninsula in South East Cornwall.  The Rame Peninsula itself is characterised by unspoilt scenery, mixed with maritime and naval heritage, and opportunities for formal and informal recreation, intertwined with quaint coastal villages and a spectacular coastline.  The importance of the environment to this area is reflected in the area’s status as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The nearby settlements are highly characterful; Kingsand and Cawsand are particularly valuable as examples of Cornish villages subject to the simultaneous influences of the maritime industries and a substantial military presence over several generations.  The Maker site is also adjacent to a designated Country Park (Mount Edgcumbe), an SSSI and an extensive area of Heritage Coast.

Despite its geographical proximity to Plymouth and the fact that Cornwall is a tourism destination, the Rame Peninsula is relatively isolated in terms of accessibility, and is often referred to as the ‘forgotten corner of Cornwall’.
